Luxury cars mark record sales: What ever happened to exclusivity?

Cars! Gosh, can there really be a world without them? I hope not. While the world still whines for the lack of food, clothing and shelter (the once considered essentials of the pre-Madona world), the luxury cars segment is sure completely oblivious to its whims! Ironic as it may seem, while economies collapse in some parts of the world, the others are at its booming best (well, we always knew somebody’s loss (some developing country) is somebody’s gain (George Bush). Okay, jokes apart, the luxury (also called “unaffordable” in my dictionary) cars segment is experiencing the biggest boost in sales ever, especially in Singapore, where companies like Audi have achieved record sales of 651 cars in 2006 and are aiming for 850 cars in 2007.

Despite the obstacles arising from the jump in the COE (Certificate of entitlement-mandatory for large cards) quota, 48,000 luxury cars have already registered in the first five months of the year!

Now, with achievements like that, you don’t need to be a genius to predict what’s in store for the luxury car market worldwide. So what if you and I are long from buying one? There are millions of “moneybags” out there just planning their next Audi or Merc. (NiRa)
